Responsibilities
  • Prepare the procedure room with appropriate instrumentation, equipment and supplies.聽
  • Demonstrate competence and understanding of sterile technique, sterilization, environmental controls and decontamination of instrument and equipment.聽
  • Establish and maintain an organized sterile field and assure team members maintain the sterile environment.聽
  • Assists the surgeon by providing visualization of the surgical wound and assists with wound closure and application of sterile dressings.聽
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it relates to surgical procedures.聽
  • Apply basic knowledge of instrumentation for each surgical service with advancement in years of service.聽
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts in an accurate manner.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience聽

  • Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program or an equivalent training program that has been reviewed and approved by the department director and VP of Patient Care Services

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • National Certified Surgical Tech License required.聽
  • UAP: North Dakota, required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support -CPR, required.聽

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Required knowledge: Principles of asepsis, case preparation, infection control, basic computer knowledge.
  • Proficiency with computers and computer applications used in the healthcare setting.
  • Able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
